Beneficial effects of fatty acid monoglycerides for pets: a concrete example
Glyceride esters of medium- and short-chain fatty acids have an extremely positive effect on the nutritional cycle not only on farm animals but also on companion animals.
Their beneficial effects are numerous: they improve health of intestinal tract, also contributing to the general well-being and increased vitality of animals thanks to a rapid immune response and more effective absorption of nutrients from feed. They reduce any inflammatory conditions, whether due to arthritic processes typical of normal aging, high work-related stress or any surgical procedures.
The product developped by archena is naturally derived and rapidly absorbed, acting throughout the intestinal tracts (including the mid- and terminal ones) thanks to the ability of glyceride esters to be effective even at neutral or slightly alkaline pH, typical of the intestinal tracts of dogs and cats. Simple (non-esterified) fatty acids, on the other hand, function properly only at the acidic pH present in the stomach. archena helps reduce and/or completely and effectively replace corticosteroids, antibiotics, and bacteriostatic compounds, avoiding all the side effects typical of chemical-based pharmaceutical products (e.g., diarrhea, vomiting, clotting problems, hyperglycemia).
archena’s exclusive, proprietary, patent-pending formula includes fatty acid monoglycerides supplemented with maltodextrin, proteins, pectin, and algae. This formulation, used in pet diets, has been shown to possess properties that help maintain and support the physiological condition of their osteoarticular systems. Its action on joint membranes inhibits inflammation at its source, reducing pain, restoring joint and muscle mobility, lubricating synovial membranes, and stabilizing joint cell membranes, thus effectively supports veterinary rehabilitation therapies.
In particular, archena’s product has proven highly effective on dogs suffering from joint and arthritic disorders due to aging, producing better results than the ones of chondroitin sulfate and glucosamine, therapies commonly used with reasonable success but with various side effects and adverse events.
We conducted comparative tests between our product and conventional therapies at the Civil Protection Center (formerly COAC) in Massa Finalese, involving four groups of working animals for the following categories: rubble, gas leaks, drowning and lost persons. In total, we worked with 38 adult dogs trained for missions lasting more than 6 hours, divided by breed as follows: 9 German Shepherds, 11 Labradors, 9 Belgian Shepherds, and 9 Maremma Sheepdogs. The animals were observed during treatment for 120 days (total working hours: 680 hours/animal).
The tests were conducted comparing these animals to a control group administered chondroitin tablets (1 g of active ingredient, administered daily at 1 tablet per 10 kg of body weight) for physical and limb recovery.
The tablets formulated with archena’s product (1 g tablets containing 0.3 g of a mixture of fatty acids esterified with glycerin) were administered at the same dosage as conventional therapy.
The results showed that the recovery times after working hours for the group of dogs treated with archena’s product were 16-24 hours from the end of the mission, compared to 30-36 hours for the control group.
In addition to the shorter recovery period, it was also observed that the animals treated with the fatty acid ester-based formulation were more responsive and fed much more quickly, further demonstrating the greater beneficial effect of archena’s product compared to conventional treatments.
